Message from the Dean

Greetings from Presser Hall!

A new era has started in our school. Earlier this summer, I began my tenure as the new Dean of the School of Music, and we have been moving forward at an accelerated pace to establish clear goals that will allow us to strengthen our reputation as one of the most relevant and renowned cultural and academic institutions in the country:

  1. We have taken the first steps to develop a feasibility study for a new Performing Arts Center.

  2. We are currently working on a grant to help us identify options to potentially increase staff support in the area of technology.

  3. Our website will be revamped within the next few weeks to improve the platform that we use to tell our story.

  4. A recruitment and retention strategy is being developed to enhance the students’ experience before and during their residency at Stetson.

  5. An initiative to re-engage our alumni is being developed, including ways we can recognize our alumni and their great accomplishments.

  6. We are discussing many other goals including Development as well as Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiatives.

Our focus on student-centeredness and community engagement allows us to provide students with opportunities of unique quality and value. The music faculty at Stetson University is comprised of first-class musicians, educators, and professionals of exceptional talent, who are unconditionally committed to the success of our students, while making the community a more beautiful place to live.

I am truly honored and deeply touched by the trust that the arts community has placed in me to lead the School of Music into the amazing future that lies ahead of us. Sky is the limit on what we will accomplish as a team and I hope that you will consider subscribing to this site to continue learning about the great accomplishments of our students, faculty, alumni and staff members.

Sincerely,

Washington Garcia, DMA Dean School of Music
